Role Description

The Real Estate Accountant will be responsible for partnering with business operators to support the effective management of Robertson Properties Group (RPG) property management assets.  Responsibilities include maintaining and supporting the general ledger, recording revenue, accruing expenses, monthly financial reporting, budgeting and forecasting, profit and loss analysis, and assisting with financial audit.  Success in this role will require that monthly accounting processes continue to be refined, supporting timely, accurate financial and tenant reporting, and that an accurate understanding of business and financial issues for specific assets be developed in a systematic, non-person dependant way.  The Real Estate Accountant will also be expected to partner effectively with property managers and other accounting and finance functions.


Specfic responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Complete M/E, Q/E and Y/E close for a portfolio of commercial properties including, but not limited to GL, balance sheet, P&L, bank reconciliation and property analysis;
  • Prepare annual budgets, CAM estimates and CAM reconciliation;
  • Maintain depreciation and amortization schedules;
  • Work on special projects as assigned including implementations, report specs and developing policies and procedures;
  • Responsible for bi-annual property tax payments, sales tax, business license and related follow up;
  • Prepare monthly financial analysis of properties;
  • Record and maintain straight-line adjustments;
  • Calculate and record percent rent charges;
  • Collaborate closely with Property Managers to optimize financial and operational performance of properties;
  • Review and approve chargebacks to tenants, and coordinate with Accounts Receivable team;
  • Set up and maintain leases and lease terms in Yardi;
  • Prepare required reporting to lenders and other parties;
  • Reconcile loan statements on a monthly basis to ensure that all loan activity is properly recorded;
  • File for business tax license renewal;
  • Accounts Receivable analysis and follow up.


Required Education, Experience and Competencies:

  • BS in Accounting, Finance or Real Estate;
  • Strong Excel skills, and experience using a Real Estate software package - Yardi experience preferred;
  • Two years of Real Estate Accountant experience in commercial real estate, with increasing responsibilities;
  • Well-developed business acumen, including the ability to recognize, follow up and remedy business issues;
  • Sound business judgment and critical thinking skills;
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills;
  • Desire to grow and develop both professionally and personally within our company;
  • Proactive stance toward learning, workload completion, best practices and communication;
  • Diligent and attentive to detail;
  • Team player with collaborative approach;
  • Nimble learner who will be able to take a portfolio of properties.
